Hello, my name is Joe Buettner, and welcome to my online portfolio.

I am currently a breaking news writer for Big 12 DieHards, where I write — you guessed it — a lot of news stories. I also do a weekly podcast about Oklahoma football, which I’ve been producing since 2009.

I was a sports department intern at The Oklahoman before taking my current job. I primarily served as a print and web producer, while regularly assisting with preps, local college, OKC Energy soccer and NFL coverage.

Other great experiences I’ve had include: blogging about Oklahoma football and men’s basketball for the Dallas Morning News, serving as a Sports Illustrated Campus Rush correspondent for OU and working as a reporter, assistant sports editor, sports editor and social media coordinator at the University of Oklahoma’s student newspaper, the OU Daily.

I earned my B.A. in journalism at the University of Oklahoma on Dec. 16, 2017 as a first-generation college student. In 2017, I won first place in sports reporting for yearbook publications in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Gold Circle Awards. I also wrote an eight-part series detailing Oklahoma’s Heisman Trophy winners during my final semester at Oklahoma for an independent study.

I was born and raised in Oklahoma City, and I’m huge fan of the San Antonio Spurs, hip hop music and Genghis Grill stir fry.
